Effects of photochemical air pollution on the human eye--concerning eye irritation, tear lysozyme and tear pH.

چکیده
This paper is presented to make both ocular symptoms and signs clear, by means of some experiments on the eye affected by photochemical air pollution. This paper summarizes three experiments, these results and discussion. The first series of experiments were performed in order to research eye irritation caused by photochemical synthetic irritants. They proved the threshold of eye irritation and the grade of irritable pollutants. Effects of photochemical air pollution on the human eye were epidemiologically investigated in the second series of experiments. Tear lysozyme and tear pH were chiefly traced as factors of the affected eye. In the third series of experiments, hen egg lysozyme was examined under various synthetic pollutants to seek what substances reduce the tear lysozyme. As a result, it has been suggested that ozone(03) was primarily responsible for its reduction under photochemical smog. Finally in this paper, it has been discussed why ocular symptoms and signs occurred in photochemical smog. -CONTENTS Introduction A) Eye Irritation in Photochemical Synthetic Oxidant 1. Comparison of hyaluronic acid-containing topical eye drops with carbomer-based topical ocular gel as a tear replacement in canine keratoconjunctivitis sicca: A prospective study in twenty five dogs
The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of a hyaluronic acid containing eye drop in ameliorating ocular surface pathology and discomfort in canine keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS). Twenty five dogs with KCS treated with a topical carbomer (CA)-based tear replacement gel were moved to treatment with a hyaluronic acid (HA)-containing tear replacement eye drop. Dogs were subject to a fu...
متن کاملDry eye, blinking, and blepharospasm.
The primary purpose of the eyelids is to ensure corneal integrity. An important component of this protective function is maintaining the corneal tear film. Blink characteristics can determine tear film stability. Increasing blink amplitude thickens the lipid layer that overlies the aqueous layer of the tear film. This thickening reduces evaporation of the aqueous layer. Because each blink refor...

ANNALS OF OPHTHALMOLOGY 5, 2014 The acid–base balance is a part of human homeostasis. Cells and tissues of the human body are susceptible to pH change: stability of molecular structures and enzyme activity can be maintained only in the tolerable range of pH. The maintenance of the acid–base balance is vital biochemical parameter required for normal physiology, and its change is associated with ...
متن کاملThe questionably dry eye.
This paper is concerned with the recognition of the dry eye when the clinical diagnosis is in doubt and other external eye diseases may be present. Papillary conjunctivitis is common to the dry eye as well as other pathological conditions and confuses the diagnosis. We have correlated the factors involved in the assessment for dryness. We have shown that particulate matter in the unstained tear...
متن کاملDevelopment and validation of a fast, simple and specific stability indicating RP-HPLC method for determination of Dexpanthenol in eye gel formulation.
AIn this study a simple and reliable stability-indicating RP-HPLC method was developed and validated for analysis of Dexpanthenol in an artificial tear formulation. The chromatographic separation was performed on a HPLC C18 column (25.0 cm 4.6 mm, 5 m) using a mixture of 0.037 M monobasic potassium phosphate in water (adjusted with 0.1% (v/v) phosphoric acid to a pH of 3.2) and methanol (90:...
